"I honestly don't know what to do with you, Lorin!"
The young Faun didn't respond. His dad was probably going into one of his lengthy tirades again. And it wasn't as if talking back was going to get him anything but a longer speech.
"When are you going to start acting like a Faun? You've inherited your mother's knack for magic, and you're even smarter then I was at your age. But will you use those things to play a prank on those Humans?" Here it came. Lorin wished he could put his fingers in his ears without his father noticing.
"Noooooooooooooo! That would be beneath decent little Lorin!"
"But dad," said Lorin in that sad voice of his, "what have they ever done to us?" As soon as the words had left his mouth, he knew he should have just kept quiet. Stupid, stupid!
His father's chest seemed to swell, as if he was going to blow the house down. "What have they done to us?! I'll tell you what they've done! Those..."
The older Faun stopped shouting when a noise of flapping wings was heard overhead. Lorin couldn't be sure what it was - the thick foliage of the trees were hiding it from view - but then they saw it drop to the ground behind some berry bushes. Lorin and his father both raced over there - Humans were one thing, but if there was an animal in trouble, Fauns were sure to run to their assistance.
On the ground they found a black raven, alive but seemingly unconscious. The peculiar thing was that in its beak it was clutching a big letter...
